Holiday Charity: The Center for Women and Families 

This year, we’ve has decided to work with the Center for Women and Families and will accept donations on their behalf until December 7 at noon for the items listed in the attachment: ego-holiday-charity-1. EGO officers will deliver donations during the last week of classes.

Time Preference Survey

Attention 1st year MA and 1st year Ph.D. students – could you take a moment to click on the link below and rank your choices, in order of preference, for seminar course times for next year? Lots of people in the survey said the 7 p.m. slot was dispreferred, so Prof. Rabin would like to get an idea of what people might prefer instead, and then see what he can do. Seminar Times Survey

Composition Instructor Digital Assignment Survey

Attention Composition Instructors! The University Writing Center and Digital Media Suite want to hear from you about the digital projects you have assigned and plan to assign in the future, whether these are Concept in 60s or some other form of multimodal assignment. Please take a few minutes to fill out this brief survey. We will be using your responses to design resources and workshops to better support you and your students as you work on digital/multimodal projects. The survey will be available until Monday, November 28th. Cardinal Compositions: Call For Editorial Team

Applications due Monday, December 5th

Cardinal Compositions is gearing up for another year of collecting, curating, and publishing student writing and multi-modal projects.  We are looking for a new set of  editorial team members for Cardinal Compositions, the UofL journal of student writing, for the 2017-2018 academic year. The editorial cycle for this position will begin in January 2017 and extend through May, 2017, with one member continuing on to maintain the online version of the journal through December 2017.

Members of the editorial team will receive a nominal stipend—and a nice line on the cv as well. All instructors who teach in the Composition program are encouraged to apply.

To apply for the Cardinal Compositions editorial team, email a one-page letter that covers (at least) the following:

· Your interest in this position, including your interest in student writing and publication

· The editorial and leadership skills that you bring to this team, including previous experiences with editing, collaborative projects, and digital work

The Department of English Composition Committee and the Director of Composition will review applications and make editorial team selections. We expect to have decisions made and the Cardinal Compositions Editorial Team named by December 15th.

Contribution to Online Forum
Since this year marks the 30th anniversary of Berlin’s Rhetoric and Reality, an online forum is at play for a Studies in Writing and Rhetoric series. Terese Montberg has recently posted and we’re currently looking for others to post and respond.  Here’s some more information about it and how to post:  The goal of this forum is not to further canonize or rehearse critiques of this book, but to use Berlin’s text as a starting point to talk about the future work of the field and of SWR. Possible questions for consideration in these responses include, but are not limited to: if Berlin’s text announced a set of concerns for the 1980’s, what are the primary concerns for today? And how might (or might not) Berlin’s text be useful to such work? How might these new concerns should be part of the SWR series? Digital Media Research

Rick Wysocki is the digital media research assistant this year. He will have open hours in the Mac Lab (HUM 204) all semester to help Faculty, Graduate Students, and Students with multimodal and digital projects. His hours are Mondays and Fridays from 1-2 p.m. From Rick: “As mentioned above, I’m happy to help people across the university with their digital/multimodal projects. It is also a good thing for teachers to let their students know about if they need access to a computer or specifically to a Mac.”
