Monday, February 5th

SIGS Workshop – “Be Searchable” – 3pm – 5pm in Ekstrom Library W103 – What is your web presence like? Are you only visible on Facebook, or do you have a professional online presence? If you are going on the job market (or planning early for that distant day), the answer to these questions could set you apart from other applicants. This workshop will discuss why you should consider developing an online portfolio or posting an online CV, what documents or information should be included, and how even the busy or technologically-challenged can build an online presence starting today.

22nd Annual African American Music Heritage Institute presents “Ain’t I A Woman” at 8pm – Comstock Concert Hall, School of Music, free for UofL students with ID ($10 general admission). “Ain’t I A Woman” is a chamber music theatre work for actress and trio (cello, piano & percussion) celebrating the lives and times of four significant African American Women: ex-slave and fiery abolitionist Sojourner Truth, renowned novelist and anthropologist Zora Neale Hurston, exuberant folk artist Clementine Hunter and fervent civil rights worker Fannie Lou Hamer. Text is by Kim Hines. The musical score is drawn from the heartfelt spirituals of the Deep South, the urban exuberance of the Jazz Age and concert music by African American composers including Diane Monroe.

Creative Writing Group – 5pm – 7pm in the University Writing Center. The Creative Writing Group is open to all UofL faculty, staff and students. The group meets to discuss all genres of creative writing and share feedback. No sign-up is necessary.

American Association of University Women is holding a “Call Out Congress” general meeting from 6-7:30 in Shumaker 139 on how and why to call legislators regarding bills that are up for vote.

2018 Celebration of Teaching and Learning Conference – FREE daylong conference. Saturday, February 10th

Health Promotion is hosting a Mindfulness Retreat from 11am to 3:30pm in the Speed Art Museum. The struggle is real. Relief is possible. Enrollment fee for this silent meditation retreat ($5) includes lunch. Website.

Cardinal Family Fun Day – Come spend a day with your children at an event planned just for you all! From 2pm to 4pm there will be lots of crafts, inflatables, snacks, and even the Balloon Man of KY in the Student Activities Center East Gym! Then top it off by watching The Incredibles in the Floyd Theater at 4pm. Don’t miss out on all the fun!

CALLS FOR PAPERS/APPLICATIONS

Culbertson Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow in the field of writing studies at the Department of English at Indiana University, Bloomington. Review of applications will begin 2/23. Position is for 2 years starting in 2018/2019. Two courses per semester, salary of $55,000 plus benefits. Additional research supplement. Candidates must hold a PhD by July 1. We especially welcome experience and expertise in the teaching of professional writing, digital rhetoric, multilingual writing, and/or cultural rhetorics. The Fellow will participate in a lively community of rhetoric scholars that includes specialists in communication as well as specialists in writing.
